If you’ve sent money with us recently, you’ll have noticed we ask for your recipient’s home address along with their name and bank details. A few customers have asked why. Here’s the short answer.
The rules ask us to record who money goes to
As a business registered with AUSTRAC and licensed by Bank Indonesia, we have to keep a record of who each transfer is sent to, not just which account it lands in. In Australia today, that means the recipient’s full name and their account details.
The address is us getting ahead of the next set of rules
In 2025, the international standard for payment transparency (the one Australia’s rules follow) was updated to ask for more information about recipients, including their address. Countries will move to it over the next few years. We’ve chosen to collect it now rather than change what we ask you for later.
It also helps if a transfer ever needs to be traced
If you, a bank or a regulator ever asks about a transfer, having the recipient’s name, account and address on file means we can answer quickly and accurately. The more complete the record, the faster the answer.
What you need from your recipient
Before you start a transfer, ask them for:
- Their full name, exactly as it appears on their government-issued ID
- Their bank name and account number
- Their home address
The account number is the one to be careful with. Money goes to the account number you enter, so ask your recipient to send it to you in writing rather than reading it out.
It’s stored securely and used for nothing else
We only share recipient details when the transfer itself requires it, or when the rules we operate under require it. We don’t use them for marketing.
